The design of a shower pan can often be a challenge. The shape of the pan can limit the size of tile that can be used in that space. And this limitation most often leads to the use of 2x2 mosaics. Most tile manufacturers make matching 2x2 mosaics for their larger format tile. Lots of homeowners like this option and will choose to go with matching 2x2 mosaics.
The challenge can be to make the smaller tile pattern look interesting or different than a “grid” pattern. The photo above is a design that is popular and is a simpler alternative. By using the wall tile as a border and turning the 2x2 mosaic at an angle to create a diamond pattern the look changes to a more appealing design.

This is the same pattern in a larger shower pan.

This pattern can be applied to square, hexagon or herringbone patterns.

Sometimes contrast is enough to break up a simple pattern. This can be done with different tones or colors.
There are many different options beyond the square 2x2 mosaics. You just need to be open to the possibilities. Take your time with the shower design a solution will fall into place.
